Wangari Women Revolving Microfinance Scheme

The Wangari Women Revolving Microfinance Scheme is a community empowerment initiative established to support vulnerable and low-income women in Wakiso, Kampala, and Luweero districts through accessible financial support, entrepreneurship development, and household economic strengthening.

The scheme is designed to provide small revolving loans, savings opportunities, and financial literacy support to women, enabling them to start or expand income-generating activities and improve the wellbeing of their families.

Inspired by resilience and women empowerment, the scheme focuses on helping women become financially independent through a sustainable revolving fund system.

Objectives of the Scheme

  • Promote economic empowerment among vulnerable women.
  • Increase access to affordable microfinance services.
  • Support women-led small businesses and income-generating activities.
  • Encourage savings and financial discipline.
  • Strengthen household stability and community resilience.

How the Scheme Works

Women are organized into groups where they receive financial literacy training and small revolving loans. Repayments are reused to support other women in the community.

Impact

The scheme improves household income, reduces poverty, and empowers women to become financially independent and confident leaders in their communities.
