LCU on the Farm Program
Leading Change Uganda implements community-based economic empowerment initiatives aimed at improving household income, food security, resilience, and financial independence among vulnerable women.
The program focuses on sustainable livelihood support through:
- Revolving Livestock Support
- Crop Farming Support
- Skills Building and Community Empowerment
The program is designed not only to support individual women, but also to create long-term community impact through a revolving empowerment model that enables beneficiaries to support other vulnerable women over time.
Revolving Livestock Support
Under the revolving livestock support program, LCU provides women with livestock such as pigs, goats, and sheep to strengthen household livelihoods and improve economic stability. Beneficiary farmers take full responsibility for feeding, housing, treatment, and daily care of the animals, promoting ownership, accountability, and sustainability at household level.
Crop Farming Support
Under the crop farming initiative, depending on available resources and program needs, LCU provides women with agricultural support including seeds, farm inputs, and technical guidance to improve food production and income generation.
Farmers contribute land, labour, and farm management to ensure successful implementation. This shared responsibility model promotes commitment, ownership, and long-term sustainability. The program is built on a revolving empowerment approach that enables supported women to gradually extend opportunities and support to other vulnerable women within the community, ensuring continuity and expansion of the farming program.
Program Objectives
- Improve household income among vulnerable women
- Strengthen food security and nutrition
- Promote self-reliance and dignity among women
- Build resilient communities
- Create sustainable social and economic transformation
- Expand opportunities for women through revolving support
LCU believes that empowering one woman creates a ripple effect that strengthens entire families and communities.
