Bunty’s Bothy Construction Story
On 1st of October 2020, LCU received a donation of 5000 Pounds through Linda Mitchell of Scotland. The funds were used to build a meeting place for the Wangari women and Smile of the Child Project children, along with LCU’s first formal office. The hall is used by the women to conduct meetings and trainings, and also hosts the Community Reading Club.
The building project began on 9th of November 2020 and was fully supported and managed by the women, finalized on 28th February 2021. Women, youth, and children supported by LCU were happily involved in the project—many helped clear and level the land and sort bricks. It was a joyous moment filled with smiles, dancing, and singing, praising God for His greatness.

The hall is named after Linda Mitchell’s mother, Ms. Bunty, in tribute for her long-standing connection to LCU since 2016 through her love of knitting. Ms. Bunty lovingly knitted baby sweaters, jumpers, dolls, and more, which were sent to children of the Smile of the Child Project.
The hall was officially opened to the public on 8th March 2021 by Mama Margaret Nakanwagi Walusimbi, mother to LCU’s CEO Lillian Nanteza, in a colorful ceremony graced by community and district leaders.
Today, Bunty’s Bothy stands as a vital facility for Leading Change Uganda. It houses LCU’s offices, the Community Reading Club, and serves as a training and meeting center for women and children—all made possible through the heartfelt support of our friends from Scotland.
